Reza Farokhfal the Iranian writer who lives in Canada has put my poem “Chant Iran!” "بگو ایران!" in his site and Akbar Sardouzami the Iranian writer who lives in Denmark has put this comment for my poem: “حیف که ارق)عرق؟( ملی ندارم وگرنه لابد از خوندن این شعر خوشخوشانم میشد” which translates to “Too bad I do not have a taste for nationalism otherwise reading this poem would have made me horney”. I reply: This poem is open to different interpretations and I let the poem speaks for itself. But as for Iranian nationalism, as I have mentioned in my essay “Our National Spirit” published in 2002 in Persian "روان ملی ما" we Iranians are still a nation “in itself” not “for itself” in Kantian terminology. Because we do not govern ourselves democratically and let different groups whether Islamists, Monarchists or Marxists control our national narrative.
این شعر به تعابیر مختلف باز است و من میگذارم تا شعر برای خود سخن گوید. اما در مورد ناسیونالیسم ایرانی همانطور که در سال 2002 در مقاله ی "روان ملی ما: نوشته ام ما ایرانیان هنوز به تعبیر کانتی ملتی "در خود" هستیم نه "برای خود" زیرا بصورت مردمسالارانه بر خود حکومت نمی کنیم و می گذاریم گروه های مختلف از اسلامگرایان بگیر تا سلطنت طلبان و مارکسیستها روایت ملی ما را تصاحب کنند.

"این شعر به شکل "رجز" نوشته شده که در آثار حماسی از جمله شاهنامه فراوان دیده میشود. در اینجا دو نفر که درگیر انجام یکی از رائجترین ورزشهای آمریکا یعنی پلهنوردی در هوای آزاد هستند با یکدیگر مسابقه میدهند و نسبت به یکدیگر لاف می زنند همانطور که ممکن است این رجزخوانی میان دو فوتبالیست یا هواداران فوتبال صورت گیرد.
This poem is written as a piece of “boasting”. In the past use of boasting was widespread in epic poetry as can be seen in Ferdowsi’s “Shahnameh” the national epic of Iran or Homer’s Iliad . Here, the competition is not between two warriors but two stair-climbers.
