why would they even attempt to open a political scene? they are not stupid! They have been working for 500 years behind the scene to come to power and they are not giving it away.
Actually, Karim Sadjadpour articulated this view several years ago. He stated that the Regime is looking at two paths forward. One that is supported by Khameneh-ei and Sepah, wants to go from today’s Iran which is similar to the Soviet Union of the 80’s to tomorrow which is Putin’s Russia, but without the intermediate steps of Gorbachev and the disintegration of the USSR.
The second view which is held by Rafsanjani and the Reformists is the way to go from today which is like Mao’s China to tomorrow’s economic development without changing the Regime and the Tiananmen Square.
And so far, Putin’s view is winning.
