FRANCE 24: Turning against traditional parties, voters are increasingly opting for the candidates and parties they perceive as outsiders. A fear of foreigners or doubts about economic management have led to a rise in extremist populist parties. Present on both the left and right of the centre, they claim to speak for the people - the real people.

From Donald Trump in the United States to UKIP in the UK, and there could be more to come as the Netherlands, France and Germany gear up for general elections. This weekend alone, all eyes will be on the vote in Austria and the referendum in Italy. Do Europeans trust the political status quo?
