Since coming to Peru I had not gone to the Amazon. That changed with the arrival of my daughter for a visit. First thing she wanted to do was go to the jungle. We hooked up with Scott Lite, an ethnobotnay student from North Carolina, along with a traveler from Canada, and headed towards Manu Park, just inside the Amazon. More than half of the seven-hour drive in a van was on narrow dirt roads on high mountains. We arrived at our destination, Pilcopata, a sleepy village full of character and spectacular views, in the late afternoon. We took walks inside the jungle, saw amazing 2,500-year-old (probably older) petroglyphs in the unlikeliest places and visited a native community. The highlights for me were the multiple varities of beautifull butterflies and swimming in a clear river pond
