The wind cuts off the power
And you, in the  light of an anachronistic candle,
Open the poems of Hafez*.

An ancient moth is freed
From between the leaves of the book
And circles around the shadowy ring
Of the beloved candle.

The wind dies down,
The power returns,
And the light of the bulb
Sends the lover moth away.

* Hafez was a famous fourteenth-century Persian poet who used the metaphor of “candle and moth” for the beloved and lovers in his lyrics.

پروانه ي كهنِ حافظ 

باد برق را قطع مي كند
و تو در پناهِ شمعي نابهنگام
ديوان حافظ را مي گشايي.

پروانه اي كهن
از لابلاي برگهاي كتاب
آزاد مي شود
و در حلقه ي سايه دارِ شمع
چرخ مي زند.

باد فرو مي نشيند
برق باز مي گردد
و روشناييِ چراغ
پروانه ي عاشق را
فراري مي دهد.
