What Is the Name of This Flower?

 

What is the name of this flower
And who has planted it
By the walkway?

Every day in the darkness of dawn
When I pass by its side
My sleeve captures its fragrance
So much that for a while
I smell it like an exotic fruit.

It is no surprise that hummingbirds
Sit on its curly branches
And compete with one another
For the taste of its nectar.

Some people too
Are like this flower.
I met them years ago
But their memories
Still perfume my soul
Even though I cannot
Remember their names.

نام این گُل چیست؟

 

نام این گُل چیست
و چه كسی آن را
كنارِ راه كاشته است؟

هر روز كه در تاریكی بامداد
از كنار آن می گذرم
سرآستینم به بوی خوشش
چنان آغشته می شود
كه تا مدتی آن را
چون دستَنبویی می بویم.

شگفت نیست كه پِچپِچَك ها
بر شاخه های پُرپیچش می نشینند
و برای چشیدنِ شهدش
با یكدیگر همچشمی می كنند.

برخی مردم هم
مانند این گُلَند
سالها پیش به آنها برخورده ام
اما یادشان هنوز
جانم را خوشبو می كند
حتی اگر نامشان را
به یاد نیاورم.
