Don't see the contradiction
Monarchs throughout Persian History were anointed like in the majority of the monarchies in the world including Great Britain
A simple look at the Tombs of the Aechemenid Kings for instance show the Persian Monarchs under the image of a Farvahar as embodiment of divinity.
There is no such thing as a secular monarchy. Only secular ceremonies at best but the inimacy between Faith and Monarchy is well established since the dawn of time.
I would say not supporting Reza Khan's Coronation would have been a contradiction in terms given that throughout our history dynasties were made and undone by force.
Reza Shah had no particular reason to behave otherwise
I agree about the coronation however the erstwhile point remains that he had the support of the clergy for the constitiontional change because of the clerical oppositoin to republicanism. No doubt all monarchs rely on religion as a pillar of their power (to the extent it contributed to defeat by a bunch of marauding Arabs). Reza Shah when he was Reza Khan exploited it too, I think I read somewhere he made sure the Persian Cossack Brigade was at the forefront of all Muharram marches. Some say he covered his face in Mud leading the processions.
The photograph I posted of the constituational assembly may not be his swearing in ceremony (as reported by most sites) but of his speech at the opening of the Assembly.
I know what you are saying Darius and using a photo is same as using an out of context quote. When I first saw the Assembly photo I was struck and it still makes an impression as to how keenly he was surrounded by so many Koon-Liss Akhoonds.
